About Maker

Back in 1949, a chemist named Emanuel Goldberg from Rochester, New York developed the first plastic pipette holder, he went on to found the Nalgen Company. The company soon branched out into making other state of the art labware items, all of which carried the Nalgene brand. As the Nalge Company grew, an increasing number of scientists were discovering new uses for the products they made. Many returned from weekend excursions and hikes reporting that the smaller plastic lab containers worked well as leakproof water bottles. By the late 1970s, this “unofficial” use for Nalgene bottles became so widespread, the company decided to create an entire division devoted to meeting the needs of outdoor enthusiasts. Over 45 years later Nalgene bottles are available all over the world and are still made in Rochester, New York, USA.
